“I think women are really good at making friends and not good at networking. Men are good at networking and not necessarily making friends. That’s a gross generalization, but I think it holds in many ways.”
– Madeleine Albright, former US Secretary of State
However, something Madeleine hadn’t considered at that point was that there was one type of Business Woman to prove her wrong – the German-Australian Business Women Association!
Sara, Katja, Annika und Eva wanted to know what it was all about and visited yesterday’s kick-off meeting in Sydney! It was amazing to see how much appeal the association had as seen by the large turnout from numerous businesswomen from Germany. The key speaker of the evening, Alexandra, who is the Director Marketing Communications South Asia Pacific at Fresenius Medical Care, explained in her presentation why she loved Australia, but also saw the challenges faced by those trying to build a new life down under.
After her talk, everyone was eager to mingle, network and exchange information. Whether it was about finding a job, getting someone on board for a business idea or merely to socialise, the German women in Sydney networked, and the AHK – as always – right in the middle!
Therefore, Ms Albright, it has to be said: the German women are good at both – making friends AND networking!
Good to know: The German-Australian Chamber is hosting regularly an networking event for Young Executives. More information here >>
